Step out [May. 7th, 2006|01:29 am]
Aw, shitfuck. Grant McLennan died. There can't possibly be any good reason for this. OK, so the reunion albums were underwhelming. To be kind. But Jesus H., "Cattle And Cane" alone merits half-staff flags in this opposite hemisphere as far as I'm concerned. This is bad. This is Kevin Coyne bad.

Tomorrow, my first day off in some time, will be All Tallulah, All The Time.

Never done me one of these [Dec. 9th, 2005|02:31 pm]
[Current Mood |listlesslistless]
[Current Music |Electric Eels: You Crummy Fags]

From </a></b></a>[info]agreatnotion:

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your LJ along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to.

1) Snapper: Snapper And The Ocean
2) Dolly Parton: Don't Drop Out
3) The Apartments: The Things You Keep
4) Souled American: Rise Above It
5) Kevin Coyne: Eastbourne Ladies
6) Loose Joints: Tell You Today
7) Electric Wizard: Funeralopolis

Huh, no darkies. I'm settling into Eugene just fine, I guess. Been listening to Ann Peebles, though. And used a leave-on facial masque this morning, so it was kind of like doing blackface, except it was green. Which, again, is very Eugene.

Tag seven people? Jesus, for the most part I'd really rather not know to what people are listening (which is, of course, why I posted this). I tag Burt Convy, Billy Barty, Davis Rogan, Fidel Castro, Danny Cooksey, Ryan Matheson and Derek Bailey.

All like Beyoncé and shit [Nov. 5th, 2005|07:42 pm]
[Current Mood |uncomfortableuncomfortable]
[Current Music |Davis: "Godzilla vs. Martin Luther King"]

So I survived Katrina. I survived 26 hours in Orleans Parish Prison. I survived West Nile virus. But, friends, nothing -- I repeat, nothing -- could have prepared me for what I had to survive a couple nights ago.

I don't quite know how to say this.

I feel so...so...dirty inside.

Oh, God. Dear God.

OK.

I went out drinking with...Ani DiFranco.

Yes, she's still alive. Sorry.

It's a long story. It all happened so fast. I guess I just wasn't thinking. Really, it didn't mean anything. It didn't seem so wrong at the time, but now...I avoid mirrors.

Oh...oh God. Ani DiFranco bought me a drink. For a while I thought this was something I'd have to take to my grave, but I guess it feels good to talk about it. My wife, thankfully, has not left me over this, but seeing as how I'm damaged goods now, could you really blame her if she did? Cutting myself helps. Helps the pain.

I'm sorry, everybody.

Call me Corey... [Oct. 28th, 2005|03:08 pm]
[Current Music |Pylon - "Driving School"]

...because I have a License To Drive for the first time in four and a half years. This means those of you on the west coast can expect to see more of the wife and me. Lucky you.

Making Eugene more tolerable: We have a Russian restaurant and it's good. Certainly have the right fucking weather for it. No dried barberry, though. What gives? Potato pancakes with smoked sturgeon brandade and caviar is in our near future. Now if only someone would sell tasso, or at least andouille that at least bears some resemblance to actual andouille (where did idiot yankees get the idea that andouille is ground?), things would be OK.

Anybody want to come to NOLA to help us move? November 2nd through the 9th. Doesn't pay much, but we won't make you clean the flooded downstairs, and you will be compensated with a blowout dinner at Restaurant Cuvée that I promise will be one of the best meals of your life, and Chef Bob will treat us very, very well indeed.

Fucking California-raisin-whorin' busybody crybaby. I'm glad I resisted eating at his place when I've been in Chicago. Maybe next time I'm in town I'll throw a brick strapped to a whole foie gras through his window as payback from us sensible types.

What an asshole.

[Current Music |James Booker: "Junco Partner"]

So here I was, perfectly nonchalant about our exile in Eugene, when somebody breaks the news that Black Francis lives here now. You don't think they'd try to extradite me from Louisiana should that no-talent fuckwit hack fail to negotiate my vehicle in a crosswalk, do you?

Fucking Chuck Thompson, man. As if the hurricane wasn't bad enough.

Here are four words I never thought I'd be typing:

I have Jandek tickets.

That's fucked up.

Why do punk rock guys go out with alt.country girls? [Nov. 4th, 2004|09:28 am]
[Current Mood |excitedexcited]
[Current Music |Great Plains - Naked At The Buy, Sell And Trade]

I've long idly (and not-so-idly) wondered why it is that the better my mood, generally speaking the more sad/anxious/dour my music selection is. Never came to many conclusions on the matter (not that I don't think there are plenty [and yes I know that's a double negative, so GFY]), but at least as of right now said discussion feels moot given that I'm listening to relentlessly happy music despite -- or, I'm now thinking, finally because of -- just having had what is to the best of my recollection the best night of my life thus far for reasons that look to continue all through today and into the foreseeable future.
